Just Watched: Eagle vs. Shark

Maybe it was because I was in an allergy induced stupor, or because I watched it in two parts, but I didn't fall head over heels for this one. I get the whole "If you love Napolean Dynamite, you'll love...", but I didn't laugh out loud as much at this film. Maybe it was something cultural? No, because I'm as far removed from the Plains/Midwest/wherethefuckwherethey? culture in ND, as I was from the New Zealand setting of E v. S. Plus there were several predictable moments and I was rather disappointed. However, I did like Jarrod's family. They were hilarious. The accents in that country are enough to make my smug American self giggle (their "e" sounds like our "e" in the word "head"). I liked Lily's brother, he too was very funny.

Maybe I will watch it again. Subtle humor sometimes warrants a second look.

Horse! Daaamn.

FINALLY Watched

No really, it sat in the precious red Netflix envelope for over two weeks. This film was fantastic and everyone who recommended it to me was right. Loved the costuming, the cinematography, the art direction and special effects. Great metaphors and parallels. Would watch it again. This is the umpteenth film out of Mexico that I have enjoyed.

Recently Watched - In the Mood for Love

God I love Netflix. Just watched In the Mood for Love, this Chinese film about two married people who discover that their spouses are having an affair with each other. It's set in 1960s Hong Kong and the costumes rock. The actors are hot and the plot is good. Film junkies will appreciate the cinematic shit like sound, colors and camera work. Also, the soundtrack is damn good.

Recently Watched - Irreversible

Mentally, I'm in a better space to even mention this film. It's strange and raw. I can't recommend it, nor not recommend it, that is how fucked up it was.

Just Watched: Black Book

I saw the preview for this movie while watching this movie on DVD. I liked it. It's foreign. It has enough action and suspense for people who like it; it has that spy movie feel, some frontal nudity for the people who like that stuff, and a plot that is slightly unpredictable. It made me think of this movie, which actually made me cry. Hard.
